On last Friday I went to the Pitt Rivers Museum with my classmates and my tutor. On the first floor the colourful thing catched my eyes. It was a plastic buddha made by Tibetan artist called Gonkar Gyatso in 2014
From the exhibit I can see the buddha was constituted by some colourful plastic stickers, there are some carton characters and some fashion brand logos on it. And the background was some circles and grids and some black line with some little patterns. This plastic buddha was the typical of his work.
The artist use montage art to constitute a image, he use polyurethane, paint, graphite, collage and stickers made this work on the paper.
The artist use some fashion elements to change the buddha from traditional, the artist want to show us the new image about the traditional culture. From the bright colour the artist want us to feel vigour, the buddha is not only knowed by the old people but also knowed by teenager, the artist use the way of modern to show us the distinctive.
I think it is a interesting work, the buddha maybe become well know from this work. It will not just a old fashion traditional culture it will be all ages want to understanding it.

So nice! The buddha is very sacred in China. Generally speaking that the buddha are generally made of the mental. But, i see your introduction about this work. Use different materials to making buddha. It is very interesting.
